I am learning how to design web page in the office, using Internet Explorer, of course.  I found an interesting page to start up with. http://www.freewebs.com/buatsite/index.htm (in bahasa Indonesia) and  http://www.w3schools.com/html/html_examples.asp. Creating web page is not that difficult. Not fancy web page, just simple web page that’s OK to meet what is required.

My Wireless

I am using router Linksys WURT54GL and dongle WUSB54GC for my desktops. Using WEP, bacause WPA is not working on Mandriva. Even I have changed Mandriva to Ubuntu, I am too lazy to try WPA. They are working fine, no drops, Aspire One works OK. Except few things, I can not send my CBN email thru One Mail. It says “instable server”. And I can not install Citrix needed to access my office intranet. Never mind, my 3 year old daugher plays with Aspire One than I do.

Xubuntu in USB flash drive

Last weekend, I finally succeeded in installing Xubuntu 8.04.1 to 1GB USB stick. I downloaded Xubuntu first. And I followed instructions in this http://planet.barcamp.lv/2008/07/29/guide-how-to-install-xubintu-on-acer-aspire-one/. And I can boot my Aspire One with this USB stick. I also installed Citrix so I can connect to my office computer. Perfect.

USB Boot

I tried boot my Aspire One from USB. Using Puppy LInux, succeed, following instruction from Pendrivelinux.com. And I tried Xubuntu 8.04, failed. Guess have to use 8.04.01 version, but I have not tried yet. I tried Slax, following InfoLinux magazine September edition, no success. I really want to try Damn Small Linux, but I never succeed to boot DSL from my desktop PS. Don’t know why. When booting, only 1 penguin appears on the screen and then … bump, nothing happens.

Ubuntu

Ubuntu is the most reliable linux OS, for me. My old desktop computer using Mandriva was slow accessing internet. I tried changing to Ubuntu 8.04. I think it is still slow, I am not sure …. But what is interesting is, I could install Citrix and connect to my office intranet. Before, I never succeeded to install CItrix to Ubuntu. GNOME was always crashed. A terminal appeared and I only could run commands, GUI was not working at all. That’s the reason I abandoned Ubuntu until now. The  other thing is, I installed Ubuntu on new partition and let Mandriva in my harddisk. But when booting, GRUB does not give me choice to boot from Mandriva. I don’t know why ……

Mandriva Spring 2008

I have installed Mandriva 2008 once. I liked it. Until one day, when i bought wireless device. I plugged in USB wireless device. My wireless connection was using WPA Personal. So I changed Mandrive seeting to WPA. But it did not work …… I could not connect to internet. After several days trying, the wireless connection was working with No Security (I should have done this the first time ….). Then I decided to use WEP, and Mandriva can connect to internet.

OpenSuse

Why I use OpenSuse at home? My office has intranet that can be accessed from anywhere using Citrix. I can work from home. Unintentionally, I tried OpenSuse 10.2 LiveCD from InfoLinux magazine. I was surprised that Citrix was working out of the box. I could connect to my office intranet using Citrix without a sweat. Then I was eager to install the following OpenSuse 11.0. But suprise again, Citrix is not included in 11.0. I had to install it. It was easy, but not as easy as I thought …..

Other thing, it seemed that OpenSuse 11.0 repository was not 100% ready when it was released. I could not find Kino. I installed it from 10.2 repo. Weeks after, Kino was available in 11.0 repo.

Aspire One

Bulan lalu saya beli Aspire One dari internet. Saya gunakan untuk anak saya yg 3 tahun mainan internet. Sementara anak saya yg lebih besar mainan dgn desktop (yg sudah windows free, sudah terinstall linux …) atau laptop kantor yg lagi dibawa pulang. Kalau sekedar mainan internet, buka email beserta attachmentsnya (baik lagu, movie, doc, spreadsheet dll), Aspire One sudah lebih cukup. Tapi saya belum coba Instant Messenger dan Skype. Belum bisa pakai dan belum ada “musuhnya” …… he he ….

Assallamuallaikum

Hai, saya orang baru di sini. Saya akan coba mulai menulis pengalaman saya di urusan linux (note: saya hanya pengguna, bukan expert). Sering2 saya lupa apa yg sudah saya kerjakan utk membuat linux di komputer rumah saya bekerja dgn baik. Mungkin blog ini bisa menjadi catatan saya sekaligus bisa di-share. Saya akan coba cari link ke situs/blog yang menjadi interest saya, spreadsheet dan migas.
